Kodava Cuisine: A Taste of the Coffee County
Coorg, or Kodagu, is a district in Karnataka, known for its coffee plantations, scenic beauty, and distinctive culture. The cuisine of Coorg reflects the rich heritage and diversity of the region, with dishes that are flavorful, spicy, and unique.
Kodava cuisine is based on rice, which is grown abundantly in the valleys of Coorg. Rice is used to make various dishes, such as kadambattu (rice balls), nuuputtu (rice noodles), kuleputtu (jackfruit rice cakes), and thalia puttu (rice bread).
Coorgi cuisine also celebrates meat, especially pork and chicken, which are cooked in aromatic masalas and kachampuli (a sour vinegar made from a local fruit). Some of the famous dishes are pandi curry (pork curry), koli curry (chicken curry), and baimbalé curry (bamboo shoot curry).
Coorgi cuisine is a feast for the senses, with dishes that are simple yet delicious. If you want to experience the taste of Coorg, try some of these recipes, from my free pdf of Kodava cuisine, and enjoy the flavors of the coffee county.
